Heathrow Boss Tells LBC: "Third Runway Is Going To Happen"

26 June 2018, 10:13

The Chief Executive of Heathrow has told LBC construction on a third runway "is now going to happen" after the plans were overwhelmingly backed by MPs.

The government won a key vote in the Commons last night by 415 votes to 119 - a majority of 296.

But they are still facing the threat of fresh legal action from opponents to the expansion, including four London councils.

However, John Holland-Kaye told Nick Ferrari the project will now go ahead. He said: "This is now going to happen. The overwhelming majority of MPs voted for our plan to expand Heathrow. They recognised that this is the right thing for the country.

"As we leave the EU, we want to be one of the world's great trading nations. The only way to do that is to expand Heathrow."

Among the complaints in the legal challenge include air quality and environmental issues. But Mr Holland-Kaye is not concerned, insisting: "We've got a good track record of reducing emissions, of reducing noise.

"We want to make sure we do this in the right way."
